How to Change Database Connection in ChequeGuru
Learn how to connect ChequeGuru to a different database file — useful for moving to a network shared database or a new computer.
ChequeGuru stores all its data in a single database file on your computer. By changing the database connection you can point the software to a different file — useful for multi-user setups on a LAN, moving data to a new PC, or maintaining separate databases for different financial years.
- 1. Open Database Connection. Go to Admin → Database Connection. The current file path is shown at the top.
- 2. Note the current path. Before changing, note or copy the current path so you can find the existing database if needed.
- 3. Click Change Connection. The connection dialog opens.
- 4. Connect to an existing database. Click Browse and navigate to the
.cgdatabase file — on a local drive, a shared network folder (\\server\share), or a USB drive. Select the file and click Open. - 5. Or create a new empty database. Click New Database, choose the folder and file name, and click Save. A fresh blank database is created at that path.
- 6. Connect. Click Connect. ChequeGuru validates the path, restarts, and opens the selected database.
- 7. Shared multi-user access. All computers on the same network can point to the same shared database file. Each user runs their own ChequeGuru installation but accesses a central data file — enabling concurrent multi-user operation.
