Does it work on Mac or only Windows?
Currently, ChequeGuru is designed for Windows operating systems (Windows 7 and above). We're working on a Mac version based on user demand.
What is the difference between MICR and IFSC codes on a cheque?
MICR is the 9-digit code in magnetic ink at the bottom of every cheque, used for physical cheque clearing. IFSC is the 11-character code at the top of the cheque (like HDFC0001234), used for NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, and other electronic transfers. Both identify the same bank branch but in different formats for different payment rails. See the full MICR vs IFSC explainer.
What happens if a cheque bounces?
The bank returns the cheque with a memo stating the reason and charges both parties a return fee. For bounces due to insufficient funds or stop-payment, the payee can send a legal notice under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, which can lead to a fine of up to twice the cheque amount. See the full guide on cheque bounce reasons, penalties, and next steps.
What is an account payee cheque?
An account payee cheque can only be credited to the bank account of the named payee — it cannot be encashed in cash or deposited into anyone else's account. You mark it by drawing two parallel lines in the top-left corner and writing 'A/c Payee' between them. See the full guide with worked examples.
How do I fill a cheque correctly?
Write the date (DD/MM/YYYY) top right, the payee's full name after "Pay", the amount in words followed by "Only" on the Rupees line, the same amount in figures with "/-" at the end in the box, then sign bottom right. Strike off "or bearer" for any significant payment. See the full step-by-step guide with examples.
Can ChequeGuru print a cancelled cheque?
ChequeGuru is primarily for printing filled cheques for payment. A cancelled cheque must be a physical leaf from your actual chequebook — no software can generate a valid one, because verifiers need your bank's pre-printed MICR code and account details. See our cancelled cheque guide for how to make one correctly in under a minute.
